Too many speakers, or the wrong names

Why a transcript can show one person as two speakers or put the wrong name on someone, and how to fix each case.

Jurnie first tells voices apart, then works out who each voice belongs to. Either step can go wrong. Every fix starts the same way: on the meeting's Transcript tab, click a speaker's name to open Edit speaker name. The dialog is explained in The transcript and speaker names.

One person shows up as two speakers

The speech engine sometimes hears one person as two, so the same voice appears as, say, "Speaker 1" and "Speaker 3".

  1. Click the name of the extra speaker.
  2. Pick the same person the other speaker is (or type exactly the same name). The list may say already assigned to the other speaker; pick them anyway.
  3. Click Save.

Both speakers now carry the same name throughout the transcript.

Some passages are under the wrong person

Sometimes a passage is put under the wrong speaker, so one name covers lines that two people said.

  1. Click the name on a passage that belongs to someone else.
  2. Turn off Apply to entire conversation.
  3. Pick the right person and click Save.

Only that passage moves. Repeat for any other passages that need it.

A speaker has the wrong name

Jurnie takes names from what was said (introductions, people addressing each other), from the calendar invite and, when Jurnie joined the call, from the name each participant joined with. That last one names a device, not a person: a borrowed laptop brings its owner's name with it. When several people join from one device, such as a meeting room, Jurnie doesn't name speakers after it and marks it shared device in the list; name those speakers yourself. Hover the small icon after a name to see where it came from.

To fix it, click the name, pick the right person from the list of team members, invitees and call participants (or type a name), leave Apply to entire conversation on, and click Save.

A speaker is called "Client" or "Speaker 2"

Jurnie uses a role or a number when it can't tell who someone is; it doesn't guess names. Rename the speaker as above. Connecting your calendar helps next time: invitees are suggested in the list, and Jurnie uses the invite when naming speakers. See Connect your calendar.

After fixing

The summary isn't updated automatically. On the Summary tab, click Regenerate in the This summary may be out of date. bar. If there's no bar (moving a single passage to a typed name doesn't show one), click Refresh summary, the circular arrows at the top right of the summary.

If the right person has their name spelled wrong, that's a spelling problem, not a speaker problem: use Fix a misheard name.
